MY PRTSM Journey
My journey started in the Spring of 2022 as a non-degree seeking student wanting to prove myself to the program. I was accepted into the Fall 2022 cohort after taking a couple of courses. I wanted to expand my knowledge, experience, and understand of Recreation to better serve my community, my tribe the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. I entered the profession five years ago with sports management experience and leadership experience, but I found networking and conferences to help me find my professional footing, especially from Recreation Resources Service from NC State. This led me to the PRTSM Program and honestly as I researched other programs, nobody was more enthusiastic as an NCSU Grad explaining the program to me. I have enjoyed my experience from the knowledgeable and diverse group of professors and classmates.
It was hard working full time and going to school, but the payoff is already worth it. I watched videos, did assignments, logged onto classes, and had study sessions at football games, driving across the state, on a plane, and from National Senior Games in Pittsburgh. I was able to take a tour in person at a facility for a class and meet some classmates. It has been a great experience that I will share with people.
I hope to advance in my profession with the knowledge I have obtained, grow in the industry, and be a resource for others. Being able to utilize my assignments in my work has already paid off. The Risk Management plan was just an example of how we were able to implement what I learned.
I attended my first Wolfpack basketball game and then we went to a Canes game 4 hours later. Learning how the facility switched over was eye opening and exciting because I love knowing how things work. I wish I was able to attend more virtual grad activities but feel I received a great experience! Thank you NCSTATE! Go Pack!

“We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day”
